Assistive Technology Specialist

 

40 hours per week, M-F, 189 days per year

K-12 Special Programs

Position start date: ASAP

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST

 

Definition

The specialist provides consultation and assistance to Regional specialists and IFSP/IEP teams in identifying, evaluating and providing intervention services for students who require assistive technology.  The specialist works cooperatively with District and EDS personnel to determine appropriate assistive technology alternatives for students.  The Assistive Technology Specialist provides consultation regarding the evaluation of assistive technology devices and suggests appropriate alternatives for consideration by the local district team.

 

Qualifications  

A valid Oregon Special Education Teaching license through Teacher’s Standard and Practices Commission (TSPC), or licensure appropriate in the field of Speech/Language Pathology, or licensure appropriate in the field of Occupational Therapy is required.  Must have access to reliable transportation, and consistent attendance is required.

Performance Responsibilities

  1. Participate in the local team process to identify and assess students who are appropriate candidates for assistive technology
  2. Collaborate with building team members to make decisions regarding specific assistive technology that will ensure student participation in the educational environment
  3. Provide training to District and ESD staff on evaluation and use of assistive technology
  4. Collaborate with building team members to assist in transitions
  5. Provide in-service and technical assistance to students, staff, families and peers
  6. Keep abreast of new technology and strategies
  7. May be required to bill for Medicaid reimbursement dependent upon licensure and specific services provided within the scope of the position
  8. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  9. Move materials or equipment up to 25 pounds
  10. Communicate appropriately and regularly through use of email
  11. Respect and maintain confidential information in all situations
  12. Fulfill other related duties as assigned

 

Terms of Employment A contract renewable annually by the Board of Directors, under the terms and conditions of the statutes and administrative rules of the State of Oregon, conditioned upon successful evaluations and the employee’s maintenance of a current OT license. Salary and benefits are established by policy and collective bargaining agreement.
